How it actually works
What Actually Happens When You Call an AI Agent
Veritas Logic AI
"AI phone agent" carries baggage — it brings to mind rigid phone trees that make you press 1 for service, press 2 for billing, then drop you into a hold queue or a dead-end voicemail. That's not what this is. Here's what actually happens, plainly.
The inbound experience: a real conversation
When a customer calls a trade business running the Foundation package, they don't hit a touch-tone menu. Skye — the front-desk agent — answers 24/7, in a natural conversational voice, and has a real back-and-forth about what the caller needs.
For example: a homeowner calls at 8:30pm on a Tuesday about a leaking fixture.
- Skye listens to the job description and collects the caller's basic details.
- She checks real availability and confirms an appointment time directly on the call.
- The caller gets a real answer that night, not a message waiting for the office to open.
Behind the scenes: what happens to the information
A fair question from any business owner: where does the information actually go after the call ends?
With a traditional after-hours setup, calls go to an answering machine — messages get garbled, numbers get misheard, notes end up on a sticky note that goes missing. With Skye, the call gets logged into a structured record immediately: name, job description, and appointment time, captured accurately so your team has real context before ever stepping on site.
That intake connects into the rest of the Foundation team:
- Ellie handles the financial side — your crew can voice-log a job cost or text a photo of a receipt straight into the record, instead of a receipt getting lost by tax time.
- Verity follows up on open inquiries so a lead doesn't stall out from lack of a callback.
There's no CRM integration to configure, no app to install, no setup beyond the initial onboarding — intake, expense logging, and follow-up work out of the box.
Clear boundaries: what the AI can't do
Being transparent means being honest about the limits, too. This is a practical operational tool, not a replacement for a person.
- No independent judgment beyond its scope. Skye works within clear parameters. If a caller needs a structural engineering opinion or a custom contractual exception, she doesn't guess — she captures the detail and flags it for a real person to follow up.
- No blueprint estimating yet. A blueprint-reading and construction-estimating capability is in development, not available yet. Today's live system is phone intake, expense logging, and lead follow-up.
What it costs
The Foundation package (Skye, Ellie, and Verity, sold only as the complete team) is a $4,500 one-time setup fee plus a $3,000/month retainer — $36,000 a year. Canadian businesses may be able to finance the setup cost through BDC's LIFT program; real terms are reviewed during an actual conversation, not promised here. Every deployment is backed by a 45-day guarantee.
Calling an AI agent isn't about replacing human connection or hiding behind technology — it's about making sure the phone still gets answered, the job costs stay organized, and a prospective client gets real attention, even when your hands are busy with something else.
